Beyond Our Borders
Beyond the borders of America lies a destitute world in crisis. Maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity statistics are staggering and sobering in many parts of the developing world. Enrolling in midwifery school was never a career choice for me, but a calling to offer mercy, to defend life, and to be a servant of the God who loves life. Although I am incredibly thankful for this season of my life to care for my own precious family in safe, beautiful, and bountiful Colorado, my heart is burdened and moved by the multitudes of babies struggling for a chance to live, and the mothers who literally lay down their own lives for the sake of their little ones.
For every birth that I attend, 10% of all income will be donated to support the work of a few saints who are giving everything they are to see that mothers, babies, and families worldwide are offered mercy, care, and an opportunity to thrive instead of merely survive. My desire is to create awareness and inspire action. Please read on for more information about each of the very unique and important projects.
Breath of Life Midwifery supports the following organizations:
The non-profit Light Gives Heat is founded and organized by Dave and Morgan Hansow. With interns and volunteers on the ground in Uganda, Light Gives Heat is currently buying over 850 necklaces each week at triple their usual profit and beautiful hand made bead bags to re-sell in the States – providing a fair and consistent income where there was once none. Newlife International School of Midwifery is operated as an extension of the birthing center where I lived and trained for a year, Mercy Maternity Center, which is the largest charity-based birthing clinic in the Philippines serving almost 20,000 patients (prenatal exams) annually. Families living in severe poverty conditions that cannot afford quality health care comprise their primary target group. All services provided at the clinic are free of charge.
